The SUV and sedan markets are thriving, with sales of both reaching record levels. SUVs have taken the market by storm in the past decade. This segment has grown from 7% of total U.S. vehicle sales in 2000 to over 40% in 2018. Meanwhile, sedans have lost market share, dropping from 61% to 41% over that same period.
Many consumers gravitate towards SUVs because they offer more seating space and cargo room than sedans. This makes them ideal for families with children or those who simply want more room inside their vehicles.
SUVs tend to be more powerful than most sedans
SUVs also tend to be more powerful than most sedans, which can be important for drivers who want to tow heavy loads or go off-roading. Sedans are typically lighter and more fuel efficient than SUVs, but they don’t offer as much versatility when it comes to carrying passengers or cargo.
If you’re looking for a new car with enough space and power for your needs, then keep reading! We’ve compiled a list of some of the best SUVs and sedans on sale today:
Toyota RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 is one of the most popular crossovers on the market today, thanks to its blend of practicality and affordability. It’s small enough to drive around town, but still has room for five passengers and their gear. The RAV4 comes in three different trims: LE, XLE and Limited. The base LE trim comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. The XLE and Limited trims come with a more powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 184 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. All three trims come with front-wheel drive as standard equipment, but an all-wheel drive system is available on all models as an option for an additional cost. All models come equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Toyota Fortuner
The Toyota Fortuner is one of the best-selling vehicles in its segment. It has been around since 2007 and is still going strong today. The current generation was launched in January 2014 with a new exterior design, updated interior and new engine options. The new Fortuner offers two engine options: one with a 2.7-liter diesel unit (D-4D) and another with a 3.0-liter gasoline engine (VVTi). It also comes in two trim levels — GLX and VX.
Honda CR-V
The Honda CR-V was launched in 1998 as a compact SUV that offered more space than sedans of its time. It has been updated regularly over the years so it remains relevant even now. The current generation arrived in 2015 and offers three variants — LX, EX and EXL — each with their own features and price tags for customers to choose from.
Chevrolet Tahoe: The Tahoe offers plenty of interior room, but it’s also fun to drive with its powerful engines and smooth ride quality. It’s available with either rear-wheel drive or optional four-wheel drive for extra traction on challenging terrain.
Ford Expedition
The Expedition is one of our favorite SUVs due to its spacious cabin, comfortable ride quality and excellent off-road capability. It also comes standard with third-row seating that accommodates up to seven passengers (with the right equipment).
Subaru Forester
This compact SUV offers plenty of cargo space and excellent fuel economy. It’s also surprisingly fun to drive thanks to its agile handling characteristics and responsive steering system.
